Mom (Sunshine) and son (Captain) currently thru-hiking 2197 miles from Georgia to Maine, USA and daily vlogging it.
We are Jessica, Will, Avalon, and Largo, a family of modern-day explorers and documentarians! In 2014, we began our adventure to educate our children out in the world, bond deeper as a family, and meet people from different cultures. Our goal with this channel is to share what it “really” looks like to be a full-time travel family, help others take the plunge (worldtowning.com and worldtowningvoyages.com), and share the world (and its people) with those who cannot or do not want to travel.
We have traveled by foot (hiked Camino Frances for 44 days), by RV (Three years visiting every country in Europe), by backpack (Asia), by sea (France to Baja California), and much more for the last 10 years.
Subscribe, thumbs us, tell your friends, or binge-watch. All is good! We are so glad you are here!

Rock piles are called cairns. Your cooling towel is the perfect color. Pink!
There are lots of blackberries, but I believe those in the video are wineberries. They will look like raspberries whenever they're ripe, but are so much better than black or raspberries.
We have a whole family of wood peckers in our back yard. I love seeing the new babies every year and watching them grow into adults. I believe 2 years is what we have noticed from baby to adult.
I think the reason why my hubby and I really like and follow you guys is your resilience and adventurous spirits. Even when you were having such difficult time on the boat you didn’t give up and you and Will are great role models to your kids ❤
Love the amazing drone shots. Really captures the beauty of the trail!
Have you tried Skratch Labs? I use their raspberry energy sports chews and raspberry lemon energy bar for my long run and backpacking quick snacks. They have some other flavors too.
You need to check out Greenbelly meals. They are bars that taste great and fill you up more than any other bar.
lol I had to get my Sea to Summit Comfort Light insulated air sleep mat out and test it’s crinkleness and my 16 year old came in the house and saw me laying on my mat watching you hike! I might get my bivy out and sleep in my forested yard tonight to remember how it crinkles or not. Lol I don’t remember it crinkling when we section hiked the PCT for Stehekin to Rainy Pass.
I’ve never heard of a thru-hiker splitting a pint of Ben and Jerry’s 3 ways! Shocking! 😂 So glad you listened to your bodies and took that day off, so important to do that.
Instead of D & D ............ try the game DIPLOMACY. Simple game with complicated rules and you need a semi-neutral game master to keep things going............. Just read the rules and decide from there. Please read up on the vitamins you take. The water soluble ones just pass thru BUT the fat soluble ones can lead to a fatty liver with excess use. Stay healthy..................... enjoy
❤ from Snohomish, WA, USA Started watching when you met TravellingMel
aweeeeeee luv u all!
Would either of you hike by yourself?
I love cheese curds ❤
Great hair day! Captain sounds like one of my grandsons on the gaming.🦋❤️
Garmin has a better version of the mini called the Explorer Plus. It is much easier to text and communicate if you don’t use the app. A couple dollars more but much easier to use and has much better mapping features. Just a thought.
I 'my meeting a lot of pilgrims this year who have started from home, and I have seen no such common denominator between them.
I often eat straight cheese. Sometimes with mustard.
Thank you!
I just want to pet that big dog!🥰🥰🥰
When treating with permethrin it is advised to not expose clothing to UV light until the permethrin has dried. UV light will break down the permethrin when wet. I usually apply and dry in the shade.
Where do you get your supplements and what are the brands. Love your cat. Thanks.
Yes! I am curious about the "greens" supplements---brand? Ingredients?
I added all of the supplements to the description of the video.
I added all of the supplements to the description of the video.
@@WorldTowning Thank you. I have so enjoyed following you and Captain on your adventure. You keep it real and that is helping me prepare for when I am able to do my thru hike. Cheering you on from south Alabama!
Don’t do that tree walking again. 😳😮🫣
Sentry fills my heart with happiness. 😻
Just when you think summer is there, 🥶 but hopefully tomorrow will bring 😅 warmer weather. ❤️🥰
Beautiful cat!!!! Interesting supplements. Can a person hike the AT, if they don't eat sugar? I noticed that alot of hikers eat candy.
At a certain point you just need calories. So candy offers a lot and still tastes good. That’s why “town food” also becomes so much more of a focus for hikers. Calories and something different than trail food.
You're trying to eat 4000 calories a day. It is very hard to do, especially without sugar. You burn everything you eat and more. It's actually kind of freeing, as someone who has been mostly sugar-free for 15 years, eating all the junk while hiking was fun. I still lost too much weight, nearly 50 pounds on my hike.
Beautiful cat with beautiful blue eyes
I am so glad to find you and Captain again on the trail. I was thinking I would see Will the next segment or two? Hiked 9 mi last Friday with only 600 gain but my feet were hurting at the end. Love you sunshine, love you captain, Nan
Sore ankles? Wait till you Achelles kicks in.. i have advised you on hiking boots 9especially for the distances you are doing). Heavier? Yes. Mote soul, more heel more padding and much better tread. This is my last comment on that sibject. Now , only time will tell! i do wish you good hiking though.... Ttfn
No worries about pronounciation. In my area it is called the AppalAchian not Appalachian Trail.
You have been on the trail for over 2 months. That in itself is a huge accomplishment!!!
Question? I’ve always heard that when backpacking in bear country you should cook, eat, and clean up 100 yards from where your tent is pitched. Also store your food 100 yards from both. Do you follow that rule?
Music is wonderful as always. Thanks for sharing the different ways people hike the trail. Example: nobo or sobo or combination. Love learning the terminology.
The zeros are soooo needed for mind and body.
More protein in the form of MEAT
Thank you. Ranting is acceptable!
I enjoy seeing woodpeckers.. When I am walking and hear them, I have been known to lose time trying to spot them in the trees. Captain's technical struggles made me laugh. Remember when we had to text on flip phones? Of course, I also remember when there wasn't any of that type of technology. LOL You two must do what is best for you. Priority must be your mental and physical health. Just do YOU. And big hugs to your trail support system behind the scenes.
I’m glad that you guys finally took a zero! I, personally, think that that “deficit” should take a flying leap, as you will only hurt yourselves by pushing too hard, trying to “earn” those zeros! Also, having that “deficit” could have a negative mental effect on you… I’m also glad that you got new shoes, Sunshine, as worn out shoes lead to injuries and pain. Especially when you hit rocky Pennsylvania….
Much deserved rest day! Reset and recharge❤. Largo texting through the Garmin In Reach reminds me of the early texting days from flip phones 😂. Okay, I NEED one of Neville's mugs.
You guys could do any video and we would still watch it ❤
Even on breaks from hiking, there so much you do. Hope you got rested. Another goid video. Love the music!
WOW...that's a lot of blow-downs...did they have a Tornado that passed through there?!
We had two really bad storms within a week of each other. We lost so many trees between there and Daleville. 😢
Always listen to what your heart and mind are telling you. You are good at doing this off trail so please continue to do so on trail.❤
Hi Sunshine and Captain, you're like a well oiled machine now. Keep walking and talking,Happy Trails.
I think it’s good you are listening to your body. Keep doing that. For someone taking a zero, holy cow you are busy!! I hope you get some good rest.
Great video Will, the music choices were so good! Jessica, when I walked the Camino and via Francigena, my podiatrist would not let me walk with shoes that you can bend the sole because it creates issues with my achilles. Keen shoes and sandals were my choices will helped relieve my symptoms most of the time. I noticed on your previous video that your shoe creases when you walk. Hopefully you will work out your issues! So amazed on your miles walked already! Looking forward to your next video!!!!😊Loving the comments from Largo, not considered rants ,but great recommendations and will get a garmin when I return next year to do the next stages of Via Francigena!
So glad you two put your "earned zero" plan aside to listen to your bodies. So important to continue by enjoying the trail. Get the rest you need!
Enjoy your days off trail! 😊
Regarding your Garmin,,,kind of like texting on a flip phone. Good luck!
